課程概述

氣候監測是藉由分析觀測和數值模式產出的氣候資料描述現今的氣候系統狀態。氣候是天氣的背景大氣狀態,而天氣是氣候狀態中的擾動,以此定義的氣候狀態必定隨季節和地理位置有所不同,時間和空間尺度也必隨關心的天氣系統而改變。氣候狀態的變化稱為氣候變異,週、月、季、年都是常用來界定變異的時間尺度。即時監測與分析各種尺度的氣候變異有助於認識和了解全球與區域氣候變化以及天氣與氣候的關係。
本課程著重在時間尺度從週到數十年的短期氣候變化監測和統計分析,也將介紹分析極端天氣事件和氣候變遷關係的歸因科學(attribution science) 的概念和發展現況。主要對象為碩博士班研究生,側重於觀察及討論世界主要氣候中心提供的即時氣候監測資料,研讀相關文獻,了解氣候變異主模態的現象與監測分析方法。規劃約二分之一的課程內容為氣候監測分析與文獻討論,另二分之一為全球觀測和預測資料分析實作與研討。為加強對課程內容的了解,將有作業和期中進度報告,也將由學生在課程範圍內自己挑選想深入了解的研究題目在課堂討論並撰寫期末報告。 

課程目標

2. Develop an understanding of the climate variability on the timescales from weeks to decades.
3. Develop an understanding of the attribution science and current status.
